The algorithm of calculating contact boundaries in the finite-elements method for the solution of the high-speed collision of deformable solids

A universal (for 2D and 3D cases) algorithm of calculating contact boundaries for the solution of the high-speed collision of deformable solids is presented in detail which enables one to allow for sliding one solid past the other and not only for the process of penetration, but also for ricocheting. Taking three-dimensional calculations of slant collision of a cylinder with an obstacle by way of example, the influence of the algorithmic friction coefficient on the way the colliding bodies are deformed is shown.
