Fem parallel implementation of an initial-boundary value problem for the shallow water equations

Some parallel realizations of an algorithm for the numerical solution of a boundary-value problem for the shallow water equations are compared for their efficiency. The code is written in C language using the MPI library. Two approaches to decomposition of a computational domain and two schemes of communications are considered. Theoretical estimates for the acceleration of the parallel algorithms are given. It is shown that the acceleration depends on a number of processes, type of the communication realization and the method for a decomposition of the computational domain and the architecture of a high performance cluster system.
