Numerical simulation of chaotic dynamics of quantum vortices in superfluid helium

This work addresses 3D numerical simulation of chaotic dynamics of quantum vortices in superfluid helium at various values of adverse velocity. Numerical study is fulfilled in the so-called local induction approximation. Computational algorithm of the whole procedure is described. This new algorithm based on consideration of dynamics of vortex elements is aimed at the description of reconnection processes (recombination of line due to collisions).It is shown that the initial configuration consisting of a set of vortex rings transforms into the highly chaotic vortex tangle fluctuating in time. We calculate the temporal dependence of the density of vortex loops (length of lines per unit volume). Time dependence of total length of vortex loops per unit volume is calculated. The rate of reconnections as a function of the the vortex line density is determined. The obtained results are in good agreement with both experimental data and with the results predicted in theoretical works
