On the error of temperature measurement using a thermocouple in the case of large gradients

A numerical simulation of the temperature measurement in a unitary solid propellant is considered. Measurements are done with the help of a thermocouple embedded in a flow burning with a constant linear velocity. The results of numerical simulation using adaptive grids showed that due to the large difference in the values of thermal conductivity of fuel and the thermocouple material, flow of heat occurs on the thermocouple wire deep into the fuel, which significantly changes the temperature of the junction, thereby distorting the readings of the thermocouple
