On some numerical algorithms for computation of tsunami runup in the framework of shallow water model.I

A method for numerical modelling of tsunami wave runup on a coast is presented. The method is based on applying a combination of both 1D and 2D approximations of the shallow water model. First, the two-dimensional model with non-reflective boundary condition on a coast is used for computation of wave propagation from a source to a coast. Then the flow parameters on some isobathic line, which are obtained from this computation, are used as the boundary conditions for one-dimensional modelling of runup along different cross-sections, drawn from this isobathic line to a chosen isoline on the dry land. The procedure is described for recovering the inundation boundary using the solution of one-dimensional problems. The comparison of three algorithms for computation of waterfront point movement is presented and the results of the numerical modelling of the 2011 tsunami in Japan are provided.
