Web service for automation of processing for sub-satellite measurements and their integration into satellite monitoring systems

The article addresses a web-based service developed to both automate the handling of subsatellite measurements and integrate them into satellite monitoring systems for the purpose of conducting the integrated data visualization. The primary objective of this web service is to create an infrastructure for processing, storing, and visualizing data obtained from various in situ instruments such as acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP), CTD probes, Airmar weather stations, and Lagrangian mini-drifters. The integrated data visualization is facilitated through the collaboration between the web service and the “See the Sea” (STS) satellite monitoring system. The web service processes and standardizes sub-satellite measurements, while STS provides satellite monitoring data and a platform for comprehensive analysis. This approach allows both combining and simultaneous analysing of data from multiple sources, which leads to a more accurate and detailed understanding of marine processes.

The “See the Sea” satellite monitoring system maintains databases of various oceanic and atmospheric phenomena and processes, derived from daily satellite data as well as long-term archives. STS is utilized to address interdisciplinary challenges in ocean exploration.

This paper presents the integration process of the web service with the “See the Sea” satellite monitoring system. Specifically, it describes the development of a module for working with full-scale measurements within the monitoring system, enabling the retrieval of processed data from the web service and their visualization directly within STS. This integration facilitates the combined analysis of satellite and sub-satellite data. The results of such integrated analysis within the STS environment have been utilized to study various marine phenomena in coastal waters, as demonstrated for each instrument discussed in the article.
