Ecological monitoring of the natural territory: web services for processing and analyzing meteorological data

Addressing problems related to sustainable development and the operation of natural-technical systems requires access to detailed climate information and indicators such as wind speed and direction, solar activity, atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, air density, cloud cover, and other parameters. However, access to retrospective meteorological data is often difficult due to the significant time required to collect and process it. Unfortunately, currently available tools for this purpose do not provide comprehensive integration and automation of the processes of extracting, processing, and analyzing large amounts of meteorological data from open access sources using a service-oriented approach. This article presents an application that includes a set of services and their compositions for extracting, processing, and analyzing such data from an open source, as well as constructing various meteorological year models and forecasting electricity generation from renewable energy sources. Data can be obtained for locations specified by name or geographic coordinates. The application enables the analysis of the retrieved data and the construction of models of typical, optimistic, or pessimistic meteorological years. It also supports forecasting the electricity output of a solar panel or wind turbine based on these models. In addition, the application allows for the generation of synthetic time series of meteorological data of different lengths for a given location. The application has been successfully used to determine the optimal configuration of equipment for an autonomous energy system.
