On numerical solution of the problem on shock-free compression of one-dimensional gas layers

The results of numerical calculations of shock-free compression of plane and spherical ideal gas layers to the density, which is in [Java Applet] times higher than the initial density of homogeneous gas at rest, are presented. For the plane symmetry the well-known solution (interfacing of the centralized wave and the homogeneous flow) is accurately restored. Fro the inside compression of spherical layers, when the analytical solution is represented by locally converging series, the constraints on the initial width of the layer, which can be compressed shock-free, are found. The calculations make it possible to restore the trajectory of the piston, which performs the required compression.
