Cavitation effects and their role in failure mechanisms and in large-scale explosion processes

A brief survey is presented of the experimental results, mathematical models and numerical study of wave processes and the structure dynamics of liquid media with micro-inhomogeneities under impulsive loading. The presence of microinhomogeneities was shown to change essentially the state of the medium where cavitation begins to develop rather quickly, to modify the structure of the applied wave field as well as the mechanisms of the physical processes in the fluid.
