Flow computations at the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS)

This paper reviews a selection of numerical investigations of flow problems carried out at the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) during the period 1998-2003, documented in detail in the transactions of the center. Some of the contributions were worked out at the Supercomputing Center Karlsruhe (SSC). Both centers closely coordinated their work in the past. They recently joined to form the Center of Competence in High-Performance Computing in Baden-Wurttemberg. The following problems are considered in the review: Transitional and turbulent flows, flows about aerodynamic shapes, flows in technical applications, flows in turbomachinery, and two-phase flows.
