Proposals for metadata element sets for scientific information resources

This paper addresses proposals on the formation of metadata element sets for scientific information resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the framework of the Unified Scientific Information Space project (USIS RAS). We consider the requirements, aims and specific tasks arising in USIS RAS, as a space of interconnected distributed heterogeneous information systems. We briefly outline the application domains and information resource types, which are intended to be represented in USIS. Further, the report describes the principles used to describe metadata, and related standards and proposals for metadata schemas that were analyzed and used as a basis for USIS RAS schemas. The capability of the integrated system of information resources technology (ISIR) is discussed.
