Numerical modeling of thermal regime in shallow lakes

A one-dimensional model of a shallow lake is described. The main physical processes, simulated by the model, are as follows: heat and moisture diffusion, phase transformations (water/ice), gravitational infiltration of water in snow and soil, two-dimensional (horizontal) currents (according to Ekman equations). To account for the turbulent mixing in a lake, E-e-parameterization is used. The model demonstrates satisfactory agreement with observations taken on lakes in Yakutia and Karelia.
