Magnetic string model for calculation of waves in thin magnetic tubes

Magnetic string model is applied for calculation of the magnetohydrodynamic waves propagating along thin magnetic tubes. This study focuses on the influence of convergence of the magnetic field lines on propagation of pulses of Alfven waves. The wave pulse is shown to be reflected from the narrowest section of the magnetic tube, and thus it does not reach the boundary of the magnetic tube. In such case energy losses at the dissipative boundary of the magnetic tube are very small for any electric conductivity of the boundary surface, and the pulse can reflect many times without considerable damping.
