Interval analysis or Monte-Carlo methods?

The paper presents a critical survey, from probability theory standpoint, of some problem statements and solution techniques adopted in modern interval analysis. We discuss the concepts of "guarantee" and "reliability" of the computation results, show their relative character and propose possible ways of modification of the traditional interval problem statements that can lead to development of principally new interval methods for the solution of practical problems.
