Carbon cycle-climate feedback sensitivity to choice of the governing parameters of terrestrial carbon cycle in a climate model of intermediate complexity

An ensemble of simulations has been performed using a coupled climate-carbon cycle model. The climatic compartment consists of the IAP RAS climate model of intermediate complexity. The carbon cycle compartment is formulated as a simple zero-dimensional model. The coupled model is forced by the historical course of the industrial and land use emissions for the second half of 19th and the whole 20th centuries, and by the emission scenario SRES A2 for the 21st century. Numerous simulations are performed, perturbing the governing parameters of the terrestrial carbon cycle and either by zeroing or by artificially increasing the climate model sensitivity to the varying atmospheric CO2 concentration. Depending on the particular set of the these governing parameters, one obtains wide range of the climate-carbon cycle feedback strength, differing even in the sign of the feedback.
